Somalilandsun: Taiwan has committed to enhance a Sustainable food system in Somaliland.
This follows a meeting in the capital Taipei between resident Somaliland envoy Mohamed Omar Hagi Mahmud and officials from Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture.
The two parties agreed to develop cooperation agreements on fishing, livestock husbandry, agriculture production and research and development capability development.
Since establishing relations two years ago a myriad of sectors in Somaliland like health, education etc have benefitted from Taiwanese financial and technical support.
The Council of Agriculture is the competent authority on the agricultural, forestry, fishery, animal husbandry and food affairs in Taiwan. Its responsibilities include guiding and supervising provincial and municipal offices in these areas. Under the council there are Department of Planning, Department of Animal Industry , Department of Farmers’ Services, Department of International Affairs, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Irrigation and Engineering , Secretariat, Personnel Office, Accounting Office, Civil Service Ethics Office, Legal Affairs Committee, Petitions and Appeals Committee and Information Management Center respectively in charge of related affairs.
The representative office of the Republic of Somaliland in Taiwan headed by Amb Mohamed Omar Hagi, is the largest diplomatic mission of Somaliland in the East Asia region and serves Somaliland’s interest in East Asia and Southeast Asia Region. The office was inaugurated on September 9, 2020 in an event held at Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (IDIA) in Taipei
