Ambassador Luo said in his speech that today is the first day of 2025, and he prays for “a new beginning and a renewal of everything.

2024 is a year full of challenges, but also a year full of glory and gratitude. Taiwan also has impressive results. Thanks to the hard work of Taiwanese heroes, it not only won good results in the Olympics, but even won the championship in the World Baseball Top 12! The government administrative team has also made top ten achievements in supporting Taiwan, making Taiwan more visible to the world.

President Lai Ching-te delivered a 2025 New Year speech today with the theme of “Building National Strength with Democracy and Facing a New World”. He said that Taiwan’s performance in various fields such as democracy, science and technology, and economy has been recognized internationally. In the new year, Taiwan must unite and continue to move in the right direction. We look forward to joint efforts, regardless of the central and local governments, and regardless of party affiliation, so that Taiwan can stand firm, stride forward, and create more brilliant achievements.

As the geopolitical structural strategic competition between the United States and China intensifies, Taiwan has a favorable base to build momentum, which will be beneficial to Taiwan in the future. Diplomacy is an extension of domestic affairs. Since the opening of the Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland on August 17, 2020, we have insisted on “based on Somaliland, with East Africa in mind, and Africa in mind.” We are very pleased that the presidential envoy led a delegation to Somaliland to attend the presidential inauguration, to work with countries with similar democratic ideals to support Somaliland’s democratic achievements, and to concretize the “Taiwan Model” of mutually beneficial cooperation in Somaliland.
