Somalilandsun: Villa Somalia operatives have been accused of attempts to in the forthcoming election more so as relates to selection of alleged Members of parliament representing Somaliland in order to facilitate votes for embattled President Farmajo in the 2020-21 polls.
This is per an official letter from the speaker of Somalia’s upper house of parliament, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, who made it clear that he will not allow the government to play a role in selecting representatives for the Somaliland administration.
Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, who issued a two-page statement on Sunday, revealed that a central government role would undermine the independence of the voting process.
The announcement comes at a time when there has been a stalemate over the appointment of members of both houses of parliament from the northern regions of Somalia.
According to sources, Villa Somalia was considering interfering in the election to produce Farmajo-seeking members and cast their ballots in the 2020-21 votes.
Farmajo, who failed to deliver on his promises in 2017, once again has a desire to defend his seat in the next election.
The seats in the northern regions or Somaliland are among the criteria for deciding who will lead the country for the next four years from February, 2021.
Although Somaliland reclaimed its sovereignty and self-rule after withdrawing from its 1960 voluntary later turned fateful union with Somalia a former Italian colony three decades ago the international community still recognizes Somaliland as a regional administration directly under the Mogadishu government.
