Twenty Somaliland students have been awarded scholarships to study in Taiwan.
Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland on Thursday announced the list of the first beneficiaries of the education partnership between the two countries.
Thirteen students will benefit through the Taiwan Scholarship programme while seven others have been awarded courtesy of the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship in 2021
“It’s the first time that Taiwan Government awards 20 Scholarships since we established our representative office in Somaliland. We also have other students who have separately been awarded scholarships by Taiwanese Universities,” the Taiwan embassy in Hargeisa said in a statement.
Most of the awardees major in Healthcare, Tropical Agriculture, ICT, Soil and Water Conservation.
“These are fields Somaliland in need for national development. This Office (Taiwan embassy) believes that the scholarships awardees will return to Somaliland to contribute what they learned in Taiwan,” the statement added.
“Taiwan Representative Office congratulates those students on the praiseworthy result of their applications for the Scholarships and uses this opportunity to thank Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Science and National Commission for Higher Education which jointly implement the Taiwan- Somaliland Education cooperation.”
Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland will organize an orientation for the Scholarships awardees, hold an official awarding ceremony in August, issue the visas and facilitate logistic supports to travel to Taiwan.
