.HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Current seven members of the national Political Parties Registration and Verification Committee-PPR&VC shall play an important role in presidential and parliamentary elections slated for 2015.
In a presidential decree # JSL/M/XERM/249-2108/102013 released on the 14th October the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo extended the term of the PPR&VC for another two years with a backdated effect beginning from the 5th October 2013 – to the same date in 2015.
The extension by president Silanyo follows the expiry of the two years term of the PPR&VC as from 04/10/2011-to 04/10/2013 thence an almost fortnight’s void and oversight in issues related to political parties legal affairs.
In his term extension decree the president informed that the decision was in:
• Pursuance with Article 3, section 6 of the Political parties law # 14/2011 as well as in conformity with the same statues that grant authority to extend for two years the committee’s term from the day of swearing-in.
• Having perceived the imperativeness of having a Political Parties Registration and Verification Committee in place
• Having conformed with all guidelines pursuant to the subject matter as stipulated by the Somaliland constitution
I the president of the Republic of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamed Mahmud Silanyo hereby decree that the term of the Political Parties Registration and Verification Committee has been extended for another two years with effect from 5th October 2013 to 5th October 2015.
The PPR&VC is a constitutional body charged with the mandated to supervise the registration of political groups all the way to maturity and subsequent approval and registration of the three national political parties.
