Somalilandsun: The speaker of the lower house of representatives Hon.Bashe Mohammed Farah
has held a meeting with the Swedish envoy to Somaliland and Somalila
Mr.Andreas Ron Vexkull in his Hargeisa office.
The meeting which took several hours; and the press were kept at bay until
its conclusion.
The speaker addressed journalists after the meeting he said “We talked
about the upcoming parliamentary and council elections which are going to
take place early next year.”
This is according to news distributed by Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA) the
speaker informed that the Swedish ambassador had assured him that the
democratization steering committee and the international community will
chip in to support Somaliland with the election funds.
Hon. Bashe confirmed that H.E Andreas Ron Vexkull the Swedish envoy to
Somaliland and Somalia discussed with him about empowering women by giving
them their share of seats in parliamentary and council elections which he
said had been put into considerations.
The envoy promised that his government will pay 15% of the election funds.
The speaker on his part stated that the government and the political
parties are prepared to hold the election on time without hitch.
He went on to say that the government has already prepared monies for the
election. Hon. Bashe said that in the last f presidential election the
government paid 75% of the electoral funds while donor paid 25%.
The speaker said this time the government is ready to pay 25% of the
election money while donors should chip in and fund the remainder.
Hon. Bashe confirmed that the parliamentary and Council election will be
held in March 2019 and the political parties have already prepared the
quota for women legislators an councilors.
