Somalilandsun: National Party (Wadani) Justice Affairs Secretary Calls for Unconditional Release of Freelance Online Journalist Busharo Bandey
Opposition National Party (Wadani) has called for the unconditional release of female journalist Busharo Bandey.
Speaking to Somali vernacular television, Bulsho TV in Hargeisa, the Secretary for Justice of Wadani party Mr.Yonis Ahmed Yonis stated that Miss. Busharo was arrested in Wajale Town without any legal justification whatsoever and called for her immediate and unconditional release from police custody.
The Wadani secretary for justice affairs said this in a press briefing he called at National Party headquarters in Hargeisa.
He said “I call on this administration whose legal term of holding office has expired to unconditionally release Miss.Busharo. She was arrested on 15th May 2023 in Wajale Town. The police caused grievous bodily harm on the freelance online journalist. They have no legal justification to continue holding her in their custody.”
Justice Affairs Secretary for the opposition party Wadani stated that his party views incarceration of Miss Busharo as a political witch-hunt hence calls for her immediate release.
Secretary for Justice revealed that the female journalist suffered injuries on her chin and legs during her arrest. He confirmed that her lawyer and some family members have stated that the journalist has been denied medical attention.
“I can unequivocally confirm that the freelance online journalist was abducted by police. There wasn’t a warrant of arrest hence there wasn’t any legal justification whatsoever for the police to detain Busharo Bandey or continue holding her in their custody.” Said Yonis Ahmed Yonis.
Wadani party justice affairs secretary stated that the government everyday arrests many innocent people without legal justification. He condemned this new trend of arrests of innocent people by a government whose time has lapsed led by president H.E Musa Bihi Abdi.
The opposition party Wadani top official stated the Miss.Busharo Bandey was arrested for airing the real news happening inside Somaliland.
