HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Veteran politician and long time cabinet member Hon. Ali Mohamed Waran’ade assumed the office of the powerful interior ministry yesterday at a ceremony marked by an emotional farewell speech bade by his predecessor Hon. Mohamed Noor Araale Duar.
The new minister was appointed to the post in a major cabinet reshuffle done by the Head of State H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud earlier in the week.
Mr. Duur thanked the President for having accorded him the opportunity to serve the nation.
He emotionally recounted his short stint (almost a couple of years) in the top spot where he dealt with various issues countrywide.
Mr. Duur noted that fragile issues had to be dealt with applicable means hence hoped that his successor would address matters pragmatically and even in a better way.
He described his dismissal as a heavy burden lifted off his shoulders and reiterated that he stood for the success of the aspirations of the country.
He conceded that the turf he headed was a charge of cumbersome duties and that to run the ministry was a lifetime achievement for as far as personal experiences are concerned.
On his part, the new minister whose record of successes in the half a dozen ministries he served made him a household name, pledged to combat thuggery, step up the beefing of security and work towards bringing communities together to fortify stability, trust and solidarity for the development of the nation.
The change-of-guard ceremony witnessed the presence of most of the regional governors, a variation from past norms.
Also in attendance were both deputy interior ministers, the commanders of the police, coastguards and immigration amongst senior civil servants and public members.
