Somaliland: UN Somalia Rep to Discuss Drought and Democratization Process in Hargeisa

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun – Concerns by the United Nations over the seemingly stalled Somaliland democratization process is to be expressed to president Silanyo.
This is expected during discussions between Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and
the UN Secretary General Special Representative for Somalia Michael Keating who is expected in Hargeisa on two days working visit this Sunday.
Sources indicate that Keating who shall be meeting with various national officials, both government and political is also said to be interested in private sessions with local journalists and non state actors.
During the planned two days meetings Micheal Keating who also doubles as head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) shall not only discuss the
UNs concerns over postponement of elections, but drought and the global body’s humanitarian and development interventions in the country.
Michael Keating replaced his British country man Nicholas Kay as the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) in January 2015.

The UN is among other international partners that have vehemently condemned the now thrice postponement of presidential and parliamentary elections and subsequent term extensions for the executive and legislature.
