BURAO (Somalilandsun) – The second phase of oil exploration activities has ensued in earnest in various districts of Toghdeer Region.
This was revealed by the regional governor Ahmed Omar Abdilahi ‘Hamarje’ during a press briefing in his offices in the Toghdeer regional capital of Burao where he also urged resident s to accrue maximum benefits from the employment opportunities now abundant.
Said he, “I urge the resident s of Toghdeer to support ongoing oil exploration thus benefit from the various skilled and unskilled employment opportunities available”
Several international companies among them Genel energy, Petrosoma and Jacka resources are in intense activities geared towards phasing out exploration to drilling for oil of proven existence in billions of barrels of oil mostly in Toghdeer region.
Governor Hamarje who lauded local traditional leaders for helping cool a few tempers here and there that had flared as a result of community fears, occasioned by some unscrupulous persons, that they will not benefit from the oil contracts, said that benefits shall begin within the oil blocks communities before climbing the ladder to regional and national levels.
While numerous international companies have entered a Product Sharing Agreement with the government of the Republic of Somaliland the three in Toghdeer region namely Genel, Petrosoma and Jacka resources have moved from exploration to drilling following successful seismosic and aerial surveys fronted by Genel through a hefty $50 million investment late 2012 to early 2013 that proved billions in barrels of oil reserves.
