Somaliland: State Intensifies Drought Relief Efforts, Appeals to the IC

Somalilandsun- The entire administration is on orders to embark on ensuring that activities by the National Drought Relief Committee are accorded maximum priority nationwide
According to presidential spokesperson Eng Hussein Adam Egge ‘Hussein Deyr’ the orders were issued by president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo following the severe effects being felt in various parts of the eastern regions of Somaliland.
Eng Hussein Deyr who was briefing The Horn Tribune in Hargeisa said revealed that the governent has so far handed over its contribution of over $1million to the national relief committee” adding that the funds were jointly availed by the state and some commercial companies.
“In the course of the week president Silanyo conducted several drought relief related meetings in company of the national committee that subsequently ensued with the hefty initial funds towards supplies to needy residents in the regions of Toghdeer, Sool and Sanaag where drought related famine is biting hard” said Eng Deyr
Somaliland presidential spokesperson Eng Hussein Adam Egge Hussein Deyr Broken down the contributions handed to the relief committee were availed as follows
 Dahabshil Group of companies $200,000
 Telesom company $150,000
 Omaar Company $200,000
 Somcable $200,000
 Redsea Co (haji Bahsane) $50,000
 Alharbi Company $80,000 in cash and goods
 Berbera Fuel Depot $150,000 with
 Sultan Mahmud Haji Hussein making a personal contribution of $1000.
Eng Hussein Deyr also revealed that the head of state who is pursuing creation of a permanent authority to deal exclusively on mechanism towards the arrest or preparedness of recurring droughts in the country has also appealed to the international community both governments and organizations to chip in with urgent humanitarian relief for the suffering residents of eastern Regions of the country.
In the meantime the ruling Kulmiye party has suspended all political activities that include festivities of any sort thence fully concentrate of lobbying for eastern regions drought relief efforts.
In a press statement released by the Party’s spokesperson Hasan Mohamed Ali ‘Gafaadi’ all Kulmiye party branches have been ordered to cease all activities with merrymaking like the welcoming of new members until further notice.
Kulmiye party functionaries at all levels to concentrate on drought relief efforts The party’s headquarters in Hargeisa also order all its diversified leadership at all levels to fully concentrate on lobbying for support towards national drought relief efforts launched by president Silanyo thence aid suffering residents of Toghdeer, Sool and Sanaag regions.
“We are ceasing all party merrymaking with the intent of not only participating in drought relief efforts but in solidarity with suffering citizens of eastern somaliland” read the party statement.

On the other hand a high level delegation from the opposition Wadani Party is visiting the affected regions of Toghdeer, Sool and Sanaag to supply relief and console the area residents who have been forced to abject poverty by recurring droughts.
