MOGADISHU (Somalilandsun) – The Somalia National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) is holding two journalists in Mogadishu.

Journalists Awil Dahir Salad and Abdilahi Hirsi Kulmiye’ both of London based Universal TV are currently in custody following their Friday morning arrest on orders from NISA chief Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare.

According to freelance journalist Jama Feyte the fate of the duo under NISA custody is worrisome considering the situation in the Somalia capital Mogadishu where fourth estate operatives are exposed to terrible dangers, including killings by the government or Al-shabaab militants hostile to the news media.

“Although Al-Shabaab the Islamist insurgent group Linked Al-Qaida withdrew from the capital Mogadishu, fighting continues and makes reporting very dangerous” Jama Feyte told Somalilandsun adding than more than five Somali journalists have been killed in Mogadishu this year

Though no reason has been given by NISA for the arrest and continued incarceration of the two journalists are joint host to “doodwadaag” a popular program aired by Universal TV where participants debate touching burning issues in Somalia.

In the meantime a report by wacaal indicates that the Somalia government has taken over universal TV facilities in Mogadishu.

While the station has operated in Somalia since inception a few years back its latest “doodwadaag” program that debated the nationhood of the war-torn and fragmented country is suspected to be behind the irregular intervention by NISA.
