GABILE (Somalilandsun) – A 45 year’s old journalist and Kulmiye party is the new Gabile regional governor.
Mustafa Abdi Isse ‘Shine’ has assumed duties as the Governor of Gabile region from his predecessor Yusuf Ibrahim Gedi at a hand over ceremony at the town hall and later at the governor’s office.
The Governorship hand-over officiated by the Somaliland minister of Fisheries Ali Farah Bureed, deputy information minister Abdiwahab A Abdurahman was witnessed by elders and traditional leaders, government officials, politicians, businesses, large media and ordinary citizens as well as a sizeable entourage of the incoming Governor’s friends.
Invited speakers representing various sectors both regional and national who concurred on imperatives of regional development pledged to support and cooperate with Governor Shiine.
Yusuf Ibrahim Gedi The outgoing Governor who thanked president Silanyo for appointment and Gabilians for their cooperation castigated the local media on what he termed “Constant negative portrayal of the region.
“The media in Gabile should stop portraying the region negatively by reporting on false information but utilize objectivity through factual data”
Thanking president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo for the appointment Governor Mustafa Shiine who pledged to cooperate with Gabilians and perform his duties with diligence and without fear or favour said job creation for the youth is among major agendas of his regional administration.
Saying that he will be guided by the “Somaliland national Development Motto’ of ruling Kulmiye party he owes political allegiance to, Governor Mustafa Shiine said that, his shall be a strategically oriented administration and shall share with all stakeholders his “Regional Development Plan’ for input and comments as a prelude to immediate implementation.
originally a native of Erigavo district in Sanaag region the 45 years old Mustafa Abdi Isse ‘Shine’ who was appointment during a recent min-reshuffle by president Silanyo becomes the 2nd non Gabile born to occupy the Regional Governor’s mansion at Gabile Town during the 22 years of independence in Somaliland.
The outgoing Yusuf Ibrahim Gedi who is the first non Gabilian regional governor was formerly in similar capacity in Odweine before a major administration move that saw president Silanyo reshuffle Governors who had then occupied office in virtue of residence and replacing them with non-residents (natives).
Though a good public administrator Ex-governor Gedi leaves office shrouded with an international disaster which results from the arrest and subsequent torture of Ethiopian intelligence officers that created a diplomatic huff between Hargeisa and Addis Ababa.
This incident which is behind his firing sizzled out only after shuttle diplomacy between the two countries by senior officers, that saw the government of Somaliland acknowledged undiplomatic conduct and issue Addis Ababa authorities with an official apology.
On his part the minister of Fisheries Ali Jama Bureed senior most government witness at the hand-over ceremony urged residents of Gabile to facilitate fast paced regional development through cooperation with Governor Shiine rather than backstabbing him.
“While Gabile region is the most productive especially agriculturally in the country it is also reckoned with internal political wrangles that deter development and improved livelihoods for residents” said Minister Bureed while stressing imperatives of cooperation between all stakeholders and government.
