Somalilandsun – Despite foreign fronted intimidations Citizens of Somaliland are committed to peaceful co-existence.
This was stated by Prof Ali Khalif Galayd during an interview with HCTV held in Berlin Germany in reference to continued incursions into Somaliland by armed forces dispatched by Puntland.
According to Prof Galayd who leads the now in peace with Somaliland Khatumo secession movement, residents of Sanaag and Sool regions in the east of the country are in constant intimidation by Puntland.
Puntland is an administrative region of Somalia that claims to entire Sool and eastern parts of Sanaag regions.
Stressing on the fact that the territory under Somaliland jurisdiction is well documented and known to all having been jointly established by Britain, Italy and Ethiopia a century ago, the politician urged caution as a prelude to sustainable peace in the Horn region.
On the issue of some former Khatumoist colleagues currently based in the Puntland capital of Garowe from where they are sounding war drums, “The Khatumo peace accord signed with the Somaliland government are a foregone conclusion” Said Prof Galayd adding that the malcontents under pay by Puntland are acting on self interests and not that of locals they purport to represent.
On the soon to resume talks between Somaliland and Somalia, Prof Galayd said he supports the move wholeheartedly as long as agreements are implemented to the letter.
