HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The president of Somaliland has extended condolences to families who lost their loved ones as a result of heavy rains in the capital Hargeisa.
The head of state sent the condolences at the Hargeisa Group Hospital while visiting over 20 citizens receiving treatment from injuries sustained during the heavy wind driven rains that pounded the capital in the afternoon.
“I hereby extend my personal and that of the government my condolences to the families of the dead” said the president as briefing by medical personnel revealed that four bodies lay at the hospital mortuary following rain related deaths.
At the main public hospital in Hargeisa president Silanyo was briefed by the minister of health Dr Suleiman Isse Haglatosie and the facilities director Dr Ahmed Sheikh Omar Askar both of whom detailed on medical attention being availed the injured as well as on various services availed worried family members.
The president accompanied by the city mayor Abdirahman Soltelco, police commissioner Brigadier Abdilahi Fadal Iman, presidency minister and other officials also toured various areas of Hargeisa affected by the rains with specific inspection attention targeting Ahmed Dagah district which was keep most hit.
The heavy rains hitting the city and propelled by winds traveling at 32kms resulted not only to deaths and injuries to residents but destruction of hundreds of buildings including residential, commercial and public amenities like schools and power supply with some areas in a total brown out.
