Somaliland: President Dismayed by Political Motivated Violence, Appeals for Maintenance of Peace

While urging restrain among politicans President Silanyo says he w will not shy away from upholding the cohesion of Somaliland

The President of the republic of Somaliland H.E. Ahmed Mohammed has been “utterly dismayed by the sad incident that erupted at the behest of the parliament provocation that left casualties”.
In a call-to-order public statement made by the Head of State yesterday afternoon, H.E. Ahmed Silanyo made a passionate appeal to both the parliament and the political parties to be diligent and refrain from tribal politicking. He also called on the members of the public to work closely with the security personel to help maintain peaceful stability in the country.
He at the same time hailed the Upper House of Representatives Elders, (the Guurt), praising the position they held in trust for the country hence pledged the government’s support.
He reminded the parliamentarians that he had sent them four most important bills and acts to peruse and expedite and that the country was waiting for them direly.
The President’s statement read in verbatim:
“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Assalaam Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu;
“I sent greetings to all the people of Somaliland.
I am today dismayed by the chaotic incident that has happened at the behest of the national parliamentary assembly.
“The concerned agency has brought to my attention the fact that the results of the chaos have claimed casualties in the form of one death of a civilian and several injuries to the security personnel.
“I send my heartfelt condolences to the family members of the diseased and all Somalilanders at large while deeply hurt.
“I appeal for the maintenance of peaceful stability and calling for all to work closely with the law enforcement officers (police) and all associated security arms.
“Peace is the most important factor that this nation has, hence in my personal capacity as the President, I’ll never accept at all for any breach of public order.
Parliamentary Assembly
“To the parliament I say to you that you have a heavy and onerous task that the society
“It is not for you to perpetually dwell on wrangles and confrontations.
“Generally, I have sent to you the most important bills/acts for the essence of nationhood (amongst them) those of security, elections, budget and the electoral commission.
“It is wrong for the (parliamentary) Speaker to accuse us on daily basis by saying that (the state) interferes with them; while we are not (haven’t).
“You should indulge into your undertakings as parliamentarians and work on what the people are expecting from you.
You should address issues arising from amongst you (differences) through dialogue within legal and regulatory means.
Upper House (Guurti)
“I congratulate and praise the Guurti for the task they hold in trust for the nation and we will support them thankfully.
Political parties
“Political parties were established for the purpose of halting and doing away with tribalism.
“It is bad lack that some of them should use a tribal dais (and speak in the name of tribalism);
“I say unto you that you have a heavy and onerous burden and task for the nation hence it is incumbent upon you to live up to the expected stature, honour and national integrity”.
