Somaliland: President Bihi Warns Clan Oriented Political Self-seekers

Somalilandsun: After years of civil war selfless efforts by citizens from all walks of life have transformed Somaliland from a country in reconstruction to one in development stages.
This was stated by President Muse Bihi Abdi in his message of good wishes to citizens of Somaliland during celebrations of Eid al-Adha, the holiest day in the Islamic calendar.
“On my behalf and that of my administration I hereby extend Congratulations to all citizens of Somaliland both at home and abroad as well as to all Islamic Ummah on this auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha in the year of the Islamic Hijra 1441 which falls on Friday the 30th July 2020” said the president.
Apart from the congratulatory message , the president also touched on a number of issues currently prevalent in the country especially as pertains to politicking, clannism, planned December parliamentary and local councils elections as well as continued clan clashes in Sool region.
According to the head of state Somaliland is a nation thus all issues should be viewed and dealt with through nationalism rather than on clan basis, “We want to move away from the clan and move closer to the nation and look at things as a nation,” said the President
Stressing that the country had sufficient resources for all its citizens regardless of clan or political affiliation especially in the Oft contested waterholes, grazing lands, farms and so forth the Somaliland head of state said that the only way to finally bring and end to conflict among clans in the rural areas is for politicians and other leaders viewing all matters in a national way
Said he, “Though freedom of speech is enshrined in our Constitution every debate in the country is not to be turned into this clan versus that, thus encourage clan divisions for selfish purposes but to act in the national interest”
Addressing the issue of planned elections the Somaliland head of state urged Somalilanders to view the exercise as an important function in which they are availed an opportunity to choose councilors and legislators who will be their voice at the local and national levels.
.On impending polls president Bihi said “I recommend that the people see the impending election as a platform for voters to indicate in which forward direction they the country to move by electing the best people who can lead us at all levels, be it local government, parliamentary or presidential,” he said. ”

Reiterating that Somaliland is democratic country thus devoid of clan or tribal machinations, not to mention the non existent space for self-seeking clan based politicians the President directed those who are greedy to contest seats in the soon-to-be-elected House of Representatives and local governments.
“In order to reduce tensions and violence by clannish politicians that could lead to insecurity and demise of prevalent peaceful co-existence among our communities nation wide my administration shall not hesitate in taking any relevant deterrent measures” warned the Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi.
