HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Police headquarters has dispatched extra vehicles to the regions.
The newly acquired vehicles which are geared towards enhanced law and order during the forthcoming local council elections were dispatched to the regional police headquarters of Salel, Awdal, Gabile and Sahil regions as well as the Police rapid reaction bases in Burao, El-afweine and Erigavo towns respectively.
This development was revealed by the national police commissioner General Abdilahi Fadal Iman during a press conference at police headquarters in Hargeisa where he also refuted alleged arrests of UMADDA party candidates
Gen Fadal who informed that the vehicles are to be used as special security patrols during the local council elections slated for 28th November said that all security branches are on extra vigilance n-order to ensure maximum security which is a pre-requisite of the conduct of free and fair elections.
While commending the seven contesting political parties for the peaceful conduct of electioneering during the past fortnight the police boss further urged them to maintain the statu
s quos especially to run-up to the elections which is ten days imminent.
As for the allegations made the UMADDA party of Dr Gaboose pertaining to continued arrests of the party’s local council candidates, Gen Fadal said that only one candidate has been arrested and subsequently charged for abusing religion publicly, said he” An act that is criminal in Somaliland”
