HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – over 2000 vulnerable children are to enjoy Eid festivities in style.
This development follows a donation by the Somaliland 1st lady Amina Mohamed Jirde ‘Amina Weris’ of an assortment of foods and drinks to various institutions that host and facilitate for the welfare of orphans and street children.
The 1st lady who is currently in the UK as part of the delegation of the on vacation Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo delegated the food distribution to the deputy minister of Social affairs and former Gabile mayor Khatra Haji Geed the first woman mayor in Somaliland as well Nasra Aqil a senior ruling Kulmiye party functionary.
The beneficiaries of the annual Eid largesse by the first lady were polled from various institutions in Hargeisa and Gabile namely the Hargeisa orphanage, Mohamed Moge street children centre and the Gabile orphanage among others.
Staff and their charges in the various institutions where the Khatra Haji Geed team distributed the donations extended their profound thanks to the 1st lady for her continued remembrance of their plight which they termed as improving for the better.
Adherents of the Islamic faith shall celebrate the end of Holy month of Ramadan and attendant 30 days of fasting on Monday when Eid ul-Fitr festivities shall be the order of the day preceded by early morning communal prayers and in Somaliland the country shall observe two days holiday.
