Somalilandsun – AS a teenager Allin Mohamoud Dirir became famous for founding a political party, the National United Front of Somaliland.
In 1961 Allin moved to England, and in 2000 became the first Somali elected to local office there. He was thrice elected chairman of the parish council of Penketh, the Cheshire village where he lived after marrying Linda Smith. When she became the mayor of Warrington in 2006, Allin became the country’s first Somali mayoral consort.
