Political parties officials and NEC Commissioners discuss Somaliland parliamentary and local councils elections in Hargeisa

Somalilandsun: The Somaliland parliamentary and local councils elections shall be held next year.

This decision  was reached jointly by the national elections commission-NEC and the three national political parties during a meeting in Hargeisa.

On the same subject the head of state president Muse Bihi Abdi also met separately with NEC commissioners who presented their schedule for the polls .

The three national political parties of Ruling Kulmiye and opposition UCID and Wadani having  order NEC submit an election schedule with polls date not later than December 2020, the electoral body came back with dates for  for mid next year .

According to NEC,  to hold feasible, free, fair and transparent polls the body reguires nine months from now , the period being for purposes of undertaking apt preparations that include voter registration and conduct of the polls.

The joint political parties and NEC meeting agreed to the new schedule but with a caveat that imposes strict adherence to the May 2020 date without fail.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, today met with the Somaliland National Electoral Commission at the Presidential Palace.

 
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) briefed the President on the process of holding the by-elections for the House of Representatives and the Constituent Assembly, which had previously issued a voter registration and election schedule, noting that it had presented it to the national parties. elections to be held on time.
 
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, commended them for their efforts in preparing for the elections, and encouraged them to ensure that these elections take place in the country, urging them to expedite the preparation of voter registration and the process of holding elections.
 
At the end of the meeting, the President and the National Electoral Commission agreed to work together to hold the elections.end 
This is the first for all political parties to accede to NEC’s postponement of elections with a ruckus.
