Press Release
HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – This year, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Social Good Summit will take place in Hargeisa as part of a three-day global conference where ideas meet new media to create innovative solutions.
Held during UN Week, the Social Good Summit brings together, around the globe and online, a community of global leaders and local actors to discuss how the power of innovative thinking and technology to solve our development challenges.
In Hargeisa, the meetup will revolve around #2030NOW, meaning the urgency and importance of long term solutions for a sustainable future. It promotes long-term thinking and action, moving beyond quick fixes, short term solutions, simple “likes” and 140 characters.
It will address the following questions:
• How can new technology bring sustainable development and connect citizens to the global online generation?
• Young innovators: How youth are using technology to create opportunities and build a better future for their country?
The event will bring together innovators, leaders of communication companies, and representatives from the civil society, women and youth groups. The goal is to empower people everywhere to have their voices be heard, both during and after the Social Good Summit.
“We need your help to ensure that this conversation reaches all corners of the globe”, said UNDP Administrator Helen Clark.
