Somaliland: Help IOM Efforts to Support Somalis Affected by Drought

Somalilandsun- With a contribution of as little as $25 you could avail a drought affected Somali family of six food for a week.
This is per an appeal for donations in support of Somalis affected by drought made by the International Office of Migration-IOM.
This appeal comes while Most parts of Somalia are facing serious drought conditions with the larger part of the population facing severe to extreme drought conditions reports UN Food and agricultural organization-FAO adding that Since the last half of 2016, the severity has been spreading spatially and the impacts getting worse with time.

The latest food security and nutrition analysis from the FAO-managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU) and the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWSNET) issued on 2 February 2017 revealed that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance has increased from 5 million in September 2016 to 6.2 million between February and June 2017. That is more than half the population.
And with More than 6.2 million people in need of urgent humanitarian aid, including nearly three million who are going hungry as revealed by the World Health organization-WHO newly elected president of Somalia has declared an national disaster and added his voice to that of his counterpart in Somaliland
The appeal by President Silanyo of Somaliland has seen a response by organizations especially Telesom and Dahabshil as well as foreign governments like that of the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and neighbouring Ethiopia among others

While a personal donation of $25 can avail a Somali family of six persons food, clean water and health care for a week, $50, $100 or $150 will facilitate the same for two, four and six weeks respectively says the IOM as it solicits Support to Somalis affected by drought in Somaliland, Puntland and Somalia
