Somalilandsun: A Comprehensive report on mineral resources and mining opportunities in Somaliland is imminent.
This follows the succesful completion of an extensive nationwide reconnaissance exploration program in this uncharted land of opportunities, looking for commodities like iron ore and manganese by Geovale Africa an international company that specializes in providing Solutions for the Global Exploration and Mining Industry
In 2020, Geovale accomplished a Field Due Diligence Study of Iron Ore and Heavy Mineral Sand in Somaliland, for a Dubai based Mineral Trading Company. The study involved multiple site visits in and around Hargeisa, Sheikh and Berbera regions.
The regional geology of the area is characterized by Mesozoic to Quaternary sedimentary and volcanic sequences deposited unconformably on Middle to Early Proterozoic metamorphic and igneous rocks. The heavy mineral sand is sourced from the Proterozoic basement and deposited along the northern seacoast. Ironstones are hosted in Proterozoic granitic to mafic basement rocks.
The broad objectives of the study include:
- High level understanding of the geology, mineralization and structure of the prospect areas
- A high-level prognostication of exploration target potentialities
- Recommendation on go/no-go for acquiring the permit and the next steps towards exploration and mining.
A team of Senior Geologists having significant experiences in African continent visited the prospect areas to study the geology, mineralization control and styles, potentiality of the mineral resources, infrastructure etc. Multiple samples collected and analysed in Internationally accredited laboratory.
Geovale prioritized all the prospect areas based on technicalities and recommended for stage gated exploration program in selected areas. The project was delivered within a timeline of 2 months.

Below is a statement issued by the company
Few among us would have heard about countries which do not exist on the maps. Somali Land is the north western territory of Somalia which has declared independence. As it is not yet recognized by the UN it does not appear in the political map of the world. This part of the Nubian shield has significant potential for economic mineral deposits. Geovale has recently completed a reconnaissance exploration program in this uncharted land of opportunities, looking for commodities like iron ore and manganese.
Geovale Africa, from our offices in Tanzania and India have explored in all parts of Africa – iron ore in Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Togo manganese in Gabon and Ivory Coast, bauxite in Guinea to base-metals in Morocco, Zambia, DRC, gold in Tanzania, Sudan, Gabon, coal in Mozambique, beach sand in Mauritania, Senegal, and other commodities .. from grass-root conceptual exploration for mineral targeting to detailed exploration for JORC Geological Resource Evaluation.
