Geel Somalia Hosts Gums and Resins Stakeholder Forum in Hargeisa

Somalilandsun- The Somalia Growth, Enterprise, Employment & Livelihoods Project – GEEL Somalia is intensifying its activities in Somaliland and Somalia.
Currently ongoing in Hargeisa Gums and Resins Stakeholder Forum, August 14-15, 2017: In this GEEL in collaboration with Somaliland authorities and Frankincense stakeholders is hosting two day competitiveness platform that brings together frankincense, myrrh and gum Arabic stakeholders from public sector, the government, exporters, farmers, input providers, associations, NGO’s and research and universities to discuss challenges and opportunities in the industry, with a focus on sustainability, establishment of sectoral standards, certifications, propagation, forest re-establishment and sectoral image projection.

According to its Saamaynta Ganacsiga #2 – GEEL Quarterly Newsletter a number of activities are streamlined for Somaliland between August and September. These functions come buoyed by success of its first Somaliland Input Stakeholder Forum held from July 19 – 20, 2017 at Maan-Soor Hotel in Hargeisa.

The two-day event that brought together regional and local agro-input dealers, producers, government counterparts and financial service providers to discuss practical approaches to overcoming financial, logistic and policy challenges facing the industry, concluded with agreed upon way forward strategies for bridging the Gap existing between Farmers both Agro/pastoral, Investors and suppliers in Somaliland.
The USAID/Somalia Growth, Enterprise, Employment & Livelihoods (GEEL) Project addresses challenges and opportunities that are common among multiple economic sectors in Somalia and builds the capacity of internal investors as well as the Somali diaspora eager to invest in business opportunities. GEEL prioritizes opportunities in industries likely to attract women and youth, who have been marginalized from pursuing economic opportunities in the past. Hargeisa Job Fair, August 23 – 24, 2017: This job fair will bring together future employees and employers, and create a hub for those looking for work or skilled training opportunities. Over 50 companies are expected to participate. GEEL will co-sponsor the relevant Somaliland authorities and local organizations to identify agribusiness and fisheries enterprises to participate in the event and panel discussions and showcase potential and opportunities in the productive sectors.

Somaliland Investment Forum, September 19-21, 2017: Shuraako is organizing a two-day event on investment and renewable energy in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The forum aims to engage in a series of practical discussions to organize, collaborate and advance the private sector in Somaliland and strengthen private sector investment. GEEL is part of the steering committee and one of the co-sponsors of the event. GEEL will facilitate selected sessions
