Somalilandsun – Frankincense or Luban is abundant in the mountainous areas of Sanaag region of Somaliland

The gum is produced by certain trees that mainly grow on rock and are mainly found in the highest cliffs of the mountains of Abayid and Medeshi as well as in many other parts of the Mountains of the Gollis Range .

Frankincense is one of the consecrated incenses that is used for freshening air around shrines, Mosques , tombs and homes. Some people assume that the incense rebels evil and therefore, use it for exorcism and driving out the evil spirits from the souls of the possessed. It is considered as killer of germs . It is also chewed by sum for medical purposes to strengthen the teeth .

Somaliland Frankincense has a history dated back to the ancient Egyptians who used the incense for mummification of the bodies of the Pharaohs .

Frankincense has been traded on the Arabian Peninsula and in North Africa for more than 5000 years. A mural depicting sacks of frankincense traded from the Land of Punt adorns the walls of the temple of ancient Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut, who died circa 1458 BC
