EU Condemns the Execution of Six Convicted Murderers

Somalilandsun: “The EU holds a principled position against death penalty and is opposed to the use of capital punishment under any circumstances.

This was stated by the EU in reaction to the implementation of death sentences carried out by Somaliland authorities that saw six convicts were executed by firing squad at the Madera maximum security prison in Sahil region Last Thursday.

The executions were carried out in conformity with Somaliland law after the six were sentenced to death on various dates after they were found guilty of murder committed in diverse regions of the country.

This was stated by the Somaliland Solicitor General Hasan Mohamed Aden during a presser in the capital Hargeisa where he revealed the executions and names of those condemned.

While the death sentence was carried out in accordance to Somaliland law the European Union delegation in Somalia said that it was deeply saddened by the execution of 6 detainees in Somaliland.
