BERLIN (Somalilandsun) – An international audience composed of legislators, Diplomats, Journalists, Academics and Investors from all over the world are converging in Berlin to get facts on Somaliland.
The audiences who shall listen to a presentation on Somaliland’s statehood to be delivered by the foreign minister Dr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin on the 27th February are expected to field questions on their areas of interest.
This is per press statement released by the ministry of foreign affairs which also informs that Dr. Omar is already in the German capital of Berlin where he has so far concluded discussions with KfW Development Bank and GIZ.
The two institutions are set to visit the country in the first half of this year thus undertake feasibility studies for the promised interventions in the investment and development sectors through funding by the German central coffers.
Prior to meeting the with the two prestigious German institutions Dr. Omar held discussions with German Foreign Affairs officials where he briefed on prevalent security status in Somaliland as well as her active participation in the fight against piracy and Terrorism in the turbulent Horn of Africa region.
Discussions relevant to Germany’s direct support to the yet unrecognized republic of Somaliland were dwelt on with the Berlin authorities pledging substantial support and cooperation immediately after the assessment mission by KfW Development Bank and GIZ.
On the issue of talks with Somalia the Minister of foreign affairs informed the Germans that Somaliland was ready and prepared to resume dialogue with its southern neighbor in London, June this year as arranged.

Press Statement:
A delegation from the Republic of Somaliland led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Omar arrived in Berlin on 25 February 2013.
Minister Omar took the opportunity of his meeting with German Foreign Office on 26 February to emphasize the need for the international community to support Somaliland in order to ensure that Somaliland’s achievements in building a democratic state are consolidated. He also drew attention to the important role played by Somaliland in the fights against piracy and terrorism, and explained that it required further support in the security area so that it could continue to be a stabilizing factor in the Horn of Africa. The Foreign Minister also highlighted the historic record of peace and stability that the country has enjoyed for over 21 years as well as the specific measures the administration has taken to consolidate and expand on these achievements.
Dr. Omar also reaffirmed Somaliland’s willingness to resume the Dialogue with Somalia which started in June 2012.
The Minister thanked Germany for the decision by the KfW Development Bank and GIZ to make a joint visit to Somaliland in the first half of 2013.
