Somaliland: Both Houses Resume as MPs Endorse Reconstituted Committees

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The National Assemblies Parliament of both Houses of the Upper Elders (Guurti) and Lower Representatives resumed their 52nd and 23rd sessions respectively under the chairmanship of their Speakers Hon. Suleiman Adan and Hon. Abdirahman M. Abdillahi Irro respectively.

The House of Representatives had their MPs endorse overwhelmingly the recent changes of guard at their Parliament Committee and Social and International Security Committee.

At the same time they unanimously voted ‘ayes’ for their agenda in the coming working term.

The parliament was supposed to have resumed last week but was rescheduled hence coincided with also the Guurti’s resumption of duties on Saturday.

On the other hand the Guurti members received a 9-point agenda to ponder on.

The Speaker Hon. Suleiman told his colleagues that he was busy indulged in reconciliation efforts of warring parties hence appreciated the fruitful results.

He was referring to the state versus opposition differences concerning the opposition touted national consultative debate.

The Speaker thanked the Peace and Academy Development Institute who agreed to be the neutral convener of the round table conference between the three official political parties.

He at the same time urged the elders to address all issues that threaten solidarity hence can perpetrate discord in the country especially in the eastern parts of the country.
