BERBERA (Somalilandsun) – Passengers going through Berbera Airport are back to physical searches.

This comes after the automated body and luggage search machine malfunctioned for the second time having been repaired as recently as a month and a half ago.

Owing to the fact that the ministrty of aviation has not employed a technician skilled in the repairing of these machines installed last year it has to depend on short term contractors from Kenya.

Although the search machines malfunctioned two weeks ago the aviation ministry is yet to re-contract the Kenyan techniciians though it continues to collect the $10 levied on passengers purportedly for the services.

Passengers both local and foreign are wondering why the $10 levy approved by parliament for use as maintenances expenditure continued to be charged while the machines lay unused.

By the time of going to press we had not been able to contact any officials from the ministry for comment.
