Somalilandsun- The ruling Kulmiye party has assumed control of the House of representative.
This follows the election of MP Mohamed Farah as speaker of the Somaliland lower House of Parliament following a hotly contested poll during a special house session on the capital Hargeisa.
The Bashe victory came via a one vote win over his sole opponent MP Abdirahman Mohamed Mahmud ‘Talyanle’ who received 38 toes to Bashe’s 39.
Bashe who until now was 1st deputy house speaker got the opportunity to finally assume to the top seat after former speaker Abdirahman Irro resigned in order to concentrate on his bid for the Somaliland presidency on a Wadani party ticket come November presidential elections.
For Sool region the resignation of Irro was an open for one of its sons to occupy the seat since both Bashe and Talylanle are both sons of the county’s eastern region.
Though yet to be officially confirmed MP Talyanle who is a member of Opposition Wadani party is reportedly claiming to be the legally elected house speaker despite the final results which he is contesting.
In a short televised statement MP Abdirahman Mohamed Mahmud ‘Talyanle who had initially accepted defeat and congratulated Bashe, said that post election facts indicate that the 39 winning votes were cast for him.
“To all citizens of Somaliland I hereby take this opportunity to inform you that I am the new speaker of parliament” said MP Talyanle
Urging Bashe to publicly acknowledged his defeat and relinquish his said victory, Talynale though without elaboration informed that relevant information indicate that the ballot was tampered with in order to favour the ruling party’s nominee.
Queried on the suspected tampering with results Abdirahman Irro the outgoing speaker of the house said that if such was the case investigations should be launched thence establish facts.
