HARGEISA (Somaliland sun) – “WE are here to get a first hand insight on various aspects of your country for subsequent report to our organization”
This was stated by the special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Arab League Amb. Zayd Al-Zabban at the Egal international VIP lounge upon arrival in Somaliland where he is leading a high level delegation on a fact finding mission.
Accompanied by three other officials the Amb Zayd Al-Zabban led Arab league delegation arrived on Thursday 11th Feb, 2016 and met at the Egal Airport by the Somaliland Deputy Minister of Somaliland Foreign Affairs Ministry Ahmed Ismail Aden, ambassador of Somaliland to Yemen, the country’s envoy at large and departmental directors of MOFA&IC
The delegation immediately meet and held lengthily discussions with the Foreign minister Dr Saad Ali Shire at his offices in Hargeisa and upon completion proceeded to the ministry of interior conference room where similar meeting were also held with several other ministers of and subsequent briefings undertaken as per mandate
Other at the interior ministry meeting with the Arab league delegation included ministerial director generals as well as representatives from the private sector who made presentations of the basic needs, priorities and plans of their sectors.
To showcase the country’s democratization advances the ministry of interior Director General made a special presentation related to the ongoing voter registration and modern biometric registration tools put in place to ensure that doubled registration does not take place for the Somaliland presidential and parliamentary elections slated for March 2017.
Amb Al-Zabban who informed that his fact finding mission shows the importance the Arab league places on the prosperity and well being of Somaliland citizens said that issues presented during briefings more so as pertains to needs and challenges in all the areas, health, water, education, environment, droughts, influx of refugees and IDPs etc shall receive the highest consideration thence prioritization by that the Arab League.
The visiting delegation also met with the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo at the Hargeisa presidency. Full report to follow
The delegation were more convinced of the presented needs and challenges in all the areas, health, water, education, environment, droughts, influx of refugees and IDPs etc and that the Arab League would seriously consider it. They were satisfied how warmly they were received and that their mission to Somaliland was very successful
