BORAME (Somalilandsun) – 2012 Final year students of Amoud University will graduate in a new spacious hall.

This development has been made possible through a Dahabshil company donation that will see the old tiny hall destroyed to pave way for a new spacious university conference hall with a sitting capacity of over 1500 people.

ccording to the Dahabshil Awdal region manager Haji Ismail Abdi Riraash, the money transfer company decided to fund a new hall at the Borame town based university after observing how students and their parents as well as other guests were congested during past graduations and other ceremonies.

“Upon further information that the university will graduate over 600 students this year Dahabshil management, consulted construction engineers who prepared a budget and design for the hall.

Construction for the new conference hall has already started in earnest with the firm contracted for the works assuring both the Dahabshil and Amoud university management of works completion by the end of 2012 Ramadan which is about 50-60 days.

This is not the first time for the Dahabshil Company to support Amoud University, having participated in various development activities at the oldest institution of higher learning in the country which is also going to become the first to provide masters and Ph.D. programs in Somaliland.

The announcement by Amoud University last week that it will start providing Postgraduate and Ph.D. studies at a ceremony officiated by the minister of education Hon Zamzam Abdi Aden has been elicited much interest nationwide especially for students unable to advance their studies past the bachelor level owing to lack of sufficient funds to finance the studies in a foreign country.

As part of its Corporate Social responsibility, the family owned Dahabshil has committed millions of US dollars to education and health as well as supporting relief efforts which has had a real impact on the lives of needy communities not only in Somaliland but around the Horn of Africa as well.

In recognition of Dahabshil continued support to the Somali community both in Africa and abroad, investing 5% of its profits into community regeneration projects involving the development of schools, hospitals, agriculture and sanitation, The United Nations described Dahabshil services as “the only safe and efficient option to transfer funds to projects.”

According to the Dahabshil Group CEO Mr. Abdirashid Duale, the overall strategies of the company are tailored to arrive at optimum results efficiently and effectively. On this light, the company will continue to improve its services, products and state-of-art technologies favorable to customer needs while recognizing our responsibilities to the communities in which we operate.

In this light it is anticipated that Dahabshil which in 2010, celebrated 40 years in the business will continue to be visible in activities related to its UN acclaimed its Corporate Social responsibility
