This showdown pits the council of presidential candidates, organizers, against embattled president Mohamed Abdilahi Farmajo whose authority they ceased acknowledging on the 8th February, initially slated now postponed parliamentary and presidential elections.
In a statement the the Council of Presidential Candidates called for a peaceful demonstration to be held on Friday 26 Feb at the Daljirka Dahsoon (Unknown Soldier’s Monument), Mogadishu.
The venue is now occupied by Waran brigades supported by the US Government. We call on them to vacate the protest venue.
If the violence that engulfed last Friday’s demonstrations is anything to go by , in which soldiers dispatched by president Farmajo engaged in heavy combat with militia guarding the organizers then forthcoming one is no exception.
