“Shaping the Digital Future of Somaliland” Conference Kicks off in Hargeisa

Somalilandsun: The 2nd Somaliland Technology Conference organized by the Ministry of Communication and Technology kicked off Saturday at the Grand Hadi Hotel in Hargeisa.

This year’s theme of the conference was “Shaping the Digital Future of Somaliland” and was attended by hundreds of dignitaries including government officials, diplomats and heads of ICT companies.

Eng Ali Abdillahi Dahir, the ministry’s director general, said the purpose of the conference was to develop the country’s technology.

The Minister of Communications and Technology Hon. Abdiweli Abdillahi Sufi elaborated on the importance of the conference and his ministry’s objectives in developing the country’s technology.

The Minister of Investment Hon Mohamed Ahmed Awad stated that as a ministry, their first priority as per the investment sector in Somaliland was focus on technology and ICT.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Edna Adan praised the ministry’s efforts, adding that “while we are taking advantage of ICT to reduce the time and cost of exams for our students, we have changed the education online”.

Hargeisa Cultural Centre Chairman Jama M Jama stated, “If we want to take advantage of technology we have to localize it and that’s the only way we can compete with the world”.

The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail- Sayli’i who opened the ICT Conference praised the Minister of Communications Dr. Abdiweli Abdillahi Soufi and his ministry for organizing the valuable conference for the second year in a row given that it was difficult to hold such a conference at such a difficult time with COVID-19, which demonstrates the commitment of this sector.   He said that he hoped that the conference would bear fruits that would benefit the people of Somaliland.

The conference is expected to come up with plans to improve the use of modern technology in Somaliland.
