Mukuru and WorldRemit partner to expand money transfer service in southern Africa

Somalilandsun: Mukuru and WorldRemit today announced an intensification of their existing cooperation. After this cooperation was originally launched in Zimbabwe, the two companies want to expand their cooperation for money transfers to Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi and Botswana. This is an important step further in driving world class service delivery and financial inclusion across the African continent.

The intensification of cooperation is the latest step by both companies to improve the delivery of financial services to their clients by leveraging their skills and resources with united strength.

As a result of the closer cooperation between the companies, customers will be able to benefit from guaranteed cash at all times; the recipients are not charged any withdrawal fees for cash withdrawals. Previously, customers who received payments to mobile wallets in partner countries such as Zambia usually paid a withdrawal fee when withdrawing cash from a mobile wallet. If a WorldRemit customer sends cash to a recipient in Zambia and the recipient picks up the transfer at a Mukuru booth, they do not pay any fee.

Since the cooperation began in June 2020, WorldRemit customers in over 50 countries – including the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe – have been able to send money to loved ones in Zimbabwe who are in urgent need of financial resources in view of the expanding coronavirus pandemic. Recipients can collect their WorldRemit transfer from any of 150+ orange booths or from several Mukuru branches located across Zimbabwe in both rural, urban and suburban areas.

The cash pick-up service is available six days a week. Customers don’t expect long queues. You can collect your cash quickly and safely.

Andy Jury, CEO of Mukuru, commented on the expanded cooperation as follows: “This is a further step in the realization of our vision of offering our customers easily accessible, convenient financial services. This cooperation gives us the opportunity to make money transfer payments accessible to WorldRemit customers in remote areas via our expanded network of stands. We also guarantee the availability of cash at our booths without incurring any fees to the recipient when picking up their cash, so the recipient receives the full transfer amount that is sent to them. ”

Pardon Mujakachi, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa at WorldRemit, commented: “The response to the launch of our service in Zimbabwe has been phenomenal. We’re excited to offer our customers in Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi and Botswana the same unmatched customer service that enables affordable, convenient access to money transfer services from anywhere. By expanding our cooperation, our joint efforts towards financial inclusion are bringing about a positive change for our customers on the African continent. The WorldRemit service is 100% digital on the sender side via the WorldRemit website or mobile app and offers 24/7 access to transfers from more than 50 sender countries to over 7.000 Mukuru cash pick-up points can be sent in the five countries that we are serving with the launch. ”
