Somalilandsun – A high level delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen has visited the conflict-ravaged region in Eastern Ethiopia, Ogaden Region Zone of Godey.

The Somali Ogaden Regional Chief, Abdi Mahamoud Omer has received the delegation at the Godey Airport.

The delegation are among, the Ethiopian Federation house speaker and senior members of ruling party, domestic and foreign business investors interesting to invest the agricultural sector in Ogaden, the sources said.

According to Ethiopian government, The domestic investors are interesting to invest the agricultural sector in Ogaden.

The delegation has met with local elders organized by the Head of Gode Zone, Abdi Sonkor and there are no details about their meeting.

Despite there is growing interest for investors into Ogaden region but there is security concerns.

Ogaden National Liberation Front, a secessionist group fighting for the independence of Ogaden warns the foreign oil companies in Ogaden, and in 2007 attacked Chinese oil field in Ogaden.

According to the source, ONLF are watching closely the visit and Pro- ONLF site “Ogaden News Agencey (ONA) has published that, ONLF fighters are on the high alert.

According to our source in Ogaden, the security assessment team includes the delegation.

Godey Zone has agricultural sector since The Shebelle River which goes into Somalia passes through.

Many believe in investing Ogaden region is matter depending on the political stability of the region and see conflict solution between, ONLF, Ogaden National Liberation Front and Ethiopia federal government must be first organized.
