Somalilandsun: After a perpetual discordant Somaliland withdrew from its 1960 voluntary later turned fateful union with Somalia in 1991, but there has never been any international recognition of the region as a nation state.

In the decades that followed Somaliland has managed to negotiate peace among the clans while neighbouring Somalia descended into violence and chaos.

Denied direct aid and international intervention meant that Somaliland was given a rare opportunity to work out their own way to a fragile but enduring peace
