Somalilandsun – Deepak Kuntawala, Founder of DVK, presented at the annual launch of the FBI (Finance, Banking and Insurance) Magazine at the House of Commons on the 2nd of May 2013.

The exclusive business event was attended by influential guests made up of many of the UK’s leading business figures and entrepreneurs, corporate institutions and senior banking and finance officials. They were all keen to gain an insight into DVK and its Founder’s vision and growth globally.

Whilst presenting, Deepak gave guests an in-depth introduction to the company’s history and ethos, where he also highlighted the company’s focus sectors, and DVK’s plans for contributing back to society.

Deepak said: “Contributing to society is important because if we all live and work in a silo, then we remain isolated, and even if we get rich we have only ourselves and our families to share it with. But when we work in a community, creating teams as in the case of Henry Ford or Napoleon Hill, we become much stronger as there is accountability and continuous brainstorming.”

Snippet of Deepak’s Speech:

I am very pleased to be here today with you all on behalf of DVK and our chairman, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

I am grateful to C.B. Patel, a cherished and respected family friend, George and all the ABPL team for inviting us to collaborate and for giving me the opportunity to be here tonight to speak to you in the mother of Parliaments, where the rule of law is made and upheld, a principle that I respect enormously.

I am from this Asian community with both a father and a father-in-law who have deep roots in our society – some of you may know them – I too was brought up with a spirit of entrepreneurship.

But this 13th edition of the FBI magazine is part of something bigger and I want to widen the discussion to our approach to money.

There is another aspect to all of this, something I learnt a few years ago and which I practice on a daily basis wherever I am in the world. It is based on the law of attraction and can be found in a book called The Secret. It was on the New York Times bestseller list for a long time, and is based on a film of the same name.

It discusses the power of positive thinking. That is, if you focus hard on good, happy things, then good and happy things will happen to you. Since I started doing this only good things have come into my life. Similarly, by the law of attraction, if you focus on anger and negative energy, then negativity and frustration will surround you. In fact, it is an Indian philosophy – the idea of Dharma, following the path of goodness and enlightenment. I always try to do good to people, and never knowingly harm anyone.

I know CB that you have rigorous ethical standards and I have followed in the footsteps of my forefathers by applying certain ethical rules to DVK working practise. The group does not finance any transactions involving meat, alcohol or tobacco.

I believe that there are universal laws of money and that money itself has an energy. If you concentrate on giving rather than receiving, then money will come to you. We Asians often have a scrooge mentality and like to hold onto our savings. If you really focus hard on being abundant, I can promise you will find what I have found – that money comes back to you with multiple interest.

The results that DVK is achieving across the world are only due to the fact that we come from a place of giving and are prepared to invest across many sectors. We have private equity, trading, real estate, commodities and aviation. We are known for many things rather than one specialty. Because I don’t believe in limits.

Philanthropy is very important to DVK and we give to many charities. Giving creates a circle of fortune; if you give to others unconditionally, then you receive too. But it requires letting go.

Warren Buffet has created the Giving Pledge, where he has persuaded some of the world’s billionaires to give up half of their wealth to charity. He said, “Without passion, you don’t have energy. Without energy, you have nothing.”

Ratan Tata said “My legacy is a company on the move and the ability to move with the times.” That fluidity and financial intelligence is what we aspire to have at DVK.

Another book on the New York Times bestseller list was Rich Dad Poor Dad, which discusses the ideas of financial independence and financial intelligence.

Cease to see your assets as the most important thing in your life but create a cash flow and just watch what happens as a result. We have invested across the world in many areas. To solve financial challenges we have created financial solutions which now work for us as revenue earners. For instance, your house is only an asset if you use it to produce revenue. And there are so many ways to raise private equity. This is one of the reasons we have chosen to make private equity our specialty. It is innovative and fun and we found we can earn very well through it. It is possible to be a principled financial alchemist.

We also have a vision at DVK; positive thinking, self belief and faith. I know that vision is shared by the ABPL group and by many of you here. So on that note I would like to say once again thank you very much for inviting me here tonight and congratulations on the launch of the FBI magazine.

-Ends-
