Somalilandsun: Three people have been confirmed dead and 10 others seriously injured following the collapse of a building under construction in the border town of Tog Wajale. Most of the victims were casual laborers and builders.
According to news reaching our reporting desk the incident happened in the Somaliland side of the border with Ethiopia. The injured were rushed to the local district hospital. Our source confirmed that the owner of the building was among the dead.
As we went to press local administrators had not yet released the names of the dead and the cause of the accident.
Many buildings in Somaliland are built without certified engineers and the construction sector is unregulated this has brought about an increase of construction companies with shady records. The ministry of public works and housing needs to reign in and regulate this sector which is vital to the economy.
