HRGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The usual low keyed Valentine’s Day commemorations in Somaliland might face a Zero activities in 2016.
This follow a statement released by the ministry of Religious affairs in Hargeisa where youths were warned against any celebrations of the lovers’ day commemorated globally each year on the 14th of February.
“Valentines Day is against Islamic religious tenets” said minister of religious affairs sheikh Khalil Abdilahi Ahmed at joint press briefing with Religious leaders at his offices in Hargeisa.
The religious leaders who also spoke at the briefing said it was more imperative for prospective Valentine’s Day revelers to utilize their energy and funds towards alleviating the hardships being faced by most rural citizens as a result of severe droughts.
Though the warning sounds apt as per the country’s policies its worth is negligible considering the non-existent entertainment venues not to mention that any related activites are usually held at private functions and indoors at that
But for our readers elsewhere Happy Valentine’s Day
