HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Government’s Food Coordination Office –FCO must approve all food items released to the public by the World Food Programme-WFP
According to a circular released by the Director of the FCO Mr. Yusuf Osman Garaas all relevant UN agencies and more particular the WFP must sync with his office in before releasing any food item support.
In the circular which was circulated to all international development and humanitarian agencies operating in the country Mr. Garaas who informed that it is the mandate of his office to Coordinate all food items supplied to the populace urged relevant organizations to ensure compliance with agreed upon working guidelines.
Somaliland citizens are recipient of various categories of food items from international organizations with the bulk coming from WFP which supplies food for work, food for assets and schools feeding program as well as emergency supplies during droughts and other calamities.
WFP also provides nutritional based food items to hospital where needy patients among them people living with HIV/Aids are beneficiaries.
The FCO director who seemed to be concerned on the prevailing situation that sees WFP provide related food items supplies to Local NGO’s and schools independent of the FCO says that the aim of the circular is to ensure a coordinated approach to development support countrywide.
