HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The government has mandate of overseiing and control of the rate of local currency exchange from and to foereign ones.
This was stated by the president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo in a decree appointing a committee to deal with inflatin in the country comprising five senior government officials namely:
I. Vice president –Chair
II. Finance minister-Deputy Chair
III. Presidency Minister
IV. Interior Minister and
V. Central bank Governor
In his decree the president said to the new appointees
“AS you are aware inflation in the country is spiraling upwards at a very high speeed that reflects on the pocket power of our citizens”
To this effect and in relation to our duty of availing citizens conducive livelihoods I hereby appoint you as members of a national Committee charged with the investigation and subsequent recommendations on the high rate of exchange between our local currency and foreign ones engulfing the country”
This move comes at the optune moment in liue of the diffucluties related to the high rate of exchange from the somaliland shiling to he US dollar.
