Somaliland: Second Arrest for Former Toghdeer Deputy Governor

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The former Toghdeer deputy governor Mr. Gulled Dahir Samatar was arrested for the second time in a week; on his way to Burao from Hargeisa.

He was nabbed at Haleeya township police check point on the outskirts of Hargeisa city. The former deputy administrator of Togdheer region, who was recently released from a Berbera prison and was put into police custody again and frog marched to Hargeisa central police station where he is now incarcerated. According to our sources Mr. Gulled was on board a Toyota NOAH, and when his vehicle stopped at the checkpoint police arrested him claiming they had orders from above not to let him through hence his return to the city.

Unconfirmed reports allege that the former deputy governor had been released on condition not to set foot in Burao town for 3 months.

Mr. Gulled second arrest comes at a time when he was travelling back to re unite with his family in Burao town. The former deputy governor was arrested early this month by a contingent of police officers from the dreaded anti-terrorism unit (RRU) who at 2 AM at night raided his house and ransacked it and before terrorizing his family and taking him away with them to Berbera ; locking him up at Mandera prisons in Sahil region. According to this latest arrest of former administrator, it is believed hundreds of his youthful supporters were in preparations in his home town to welcome him back like a king.
