SALAHLEY (Somalilandsun) – The Tarmacking of the road connecting Salahley town and Hargeisa is soon to be completed.
This development follows after the presidency minister Mr Hirsi Haji Ali laid the foundation thus jumpstarting the construction of the remaining stretch of 5 kms.
At the function witnessed by senior government officials, political and traditional leaders as well as residents of Salahley district the contracting firm immediately embarked on works upon the minister laying the groundwork.
The presidency minister undertook the function en-route from Borama in Awdal region where he similarly commissioned the tarmacking of the final 5 kms stretch upon officially opening a completed 3 kms section.
The first phase of the 60 kms Salahley-Hargeisa road tarmacking project was launched by president Silanyo when he commissioned use of a 20 kms macadamized section in November 2012 at Salahley town where he termed the project jointly funded by residents, state and affluent citizens one of the noblest in the country.
The head of state urged other Somalilanders to emulate Salahley residents as pertains to the implementation of communal development projects thus alleviate various constraints associated with livelihoods especially in rural areas.
According to a member of the Salahley roads construction committee Mr Ali Ibrahim Mohamed the local community which has facilitated the tarmacking of 20 Kms of Salahley-Hargeisa road intends to see to it the entire 60 Kms stretch is similarly refurbished.
He informed that the road which was original constructed by the Italians during the second world war, said that damage related to soil erosion made the journey to Hargeisa lengthily and tiresome for commuters.
Said he, “Due to current carpeting residents commute with ease thus alleviation of a number of formerly insurmountable difficulties”
Apart from the government and residents support other contributors towards the road construction project include Telesom which donated $30,000, Al-nuur furniture company with a chipping of 50 barrels of Tar and Djibouti-Somalilander business tycoon Mr Omar Aideed whose donation was machinery worth 1.4 million USD.
