Somalilandsun – The peaceful outcome of presidential elections in Djibouti is a manifestation of its citizen’s political maturity
This was stated by Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo in a message of congratulations to president Ismail Omar Guelle who was reelected in a landslide as Djibouti’s head of state for a span of five years/
In his message president Silanyo wrote, “On my own behalf, that of government and people of Somaliland hereby extend congratulations to you president Guelle first on your re-election victory and for the peaceful manner in which the ballot was concluded in your country Djibouti.
“Being the fourth straight re-election win in a row is a measure of Djiboutian gratitude and understanding of great achievements you have attained for their country”
Somaliland shares borders with Djibouti to the west with the town of Lughaya acting as a major conduit for trade and cross border movement between the two countries.
Ismail Omar Guelleh garnered 87% of votes to win a fourth five-year term as president of Djibouti, a strategically important country in the Horn of Africa.
The Somaliland ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation also posted a message of congratulations on its twitter page
