Somaliland: President Behi Publicly Receives Covid-19 Vacination

Somalilandsun: In a historic moment for Somaliland the President Musa Behi Abdi became among the first to be vaccinated against Corona virus.
Received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine today, while launching the National Vaccination Campaign against #COVID19 in the capital Hargeisa
Upon receiving the jab and in spurring citizens towards accepting the vaccine president Behi
“I call all Somaliland citizens to take the vaccine when it is offered as it is scientifically proved to be safe and effective”
Somaliland is among the first African countries to receive doses of COVID-19 vaccine delivered through the COVAX Facility.
Last week the country received 65,000 doses an exercise termed by WHO as an historic step towards ensuring equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide

Somaliland has so far received 65,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX Facility.

These first batch of the vaccine targets frontline workers in the country that is confronted by an increase in the number of new infections.
While it is fortunate that , despite minimal measures in place to continue spread of the virus the entire 2000 year of the pandemic saw very negligible confirmed cases and deaths.
But according to the National Coronavirus Prophylactic Committee 2021 is becoming very deadly with a reported wave .
In its latest update released on Monday the National covid-19 task force revealed that from 1st January to 22nd March 2021 the country has recorded a huge number of infections and deaths.
Within that period there were 950 confirmed cases out of 13,7373 and 50 deaths.

The taskforce went on to urge Strick adherence to preventive measures out in place with some quarters within the community advocating for a lockdown of learning institutions and government facilities.
