HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The National Political Parties Registration and Verification Committee-PPR&VC is in office unconstitutional since it’s expired on 4th October 2013.
The fate of the PPR&VC whose commissioners led by its chair Mr. Abdirizaq Jama still continue to occupy their offices, hang in the balance after the parliamentary committee on finance and economy removed all funds allocated in the just approved 2014 national budget.
While it is expected that the president shall renew the mandate of the committee somalilanders shall not be happy to see the same members occupy following the several difficulties they have caused the country mainly the suspect rejection of a number of political groups during the run- up to the 2012 local council elections.
The latest controversy emanating from the partial judgment of the PPR&VC relate to the controversy surrounding the defection of the mayor of Berbera and a fellow council member from UCID to Kulmiye political party.
Upon request by UCID for the two councilors to be scrapped from party list and replaced by others due to their defection the PPR&VC instead of acting as per the law, went ahead to write to, and advise the two on how they shall maneuver the legalities of their defection legally entailing their removal from office.
