Somalilandsun: Commemorations marking the 31st Anniversary of Somaliland independence organized by opposition political parties in the country shall be undertaken as planned.
This comes after an impromptu meeting between administration officials and leaders of opposition UCID and Wadani parties this evening.
This was revealed by Wadani party spokesperson Abdilahi Mohamed Dahir ‘Ukuse’ during a press briefing in Hargeisa.
According to Ukuse the two sides also discussed prevailing dispute over the fate of presidential elections 2022 slated for 13th November.
At the meeting the host, President Muse Bihi Abdi was accompanied by Interior Minister Mohamed Kahin, his religious colleague Sheikh Albani and presidential political advisor Mohamed Waran’ade among others.
The opposite side had the presence of UCID leader Eng Feisal Ali Warabe and other senior officials while Wadani was represented by its party leader Hirsi Haji Ali and presidential candidate 2022 Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro and the spokesperson Dahir Ukuse among others.
Informing that the meeting discussed on the presidential elections dispute and government’s directive prohibiting 18th May Independence anniversary events not organized by the National taskforce, the Wadani spokesperson said
“on the issue of presidential elections both sides agreed to meet immediately after commemorating the country’s 31st Anniversary of independence this 18th May with the aim of coming to a mutually acceptable solution”
A similar deal was reached on the directive by banning any independence day commemorations not organized by the National 18th May 2022 committee appointed by President Bihi.
“All day time events shall be organized and implemented by the national taskforce as is norms annually while opposition political parties are free to organized and hold night events” said politician Dahir Ukuse

Adding that this outcome is as a result of the locally brewed, consultative and time tested Somaliland conflict resolution mechanism.

These therefore not only rescinds the government’s directive PROHIBITING non national 18th May committee 2022 Organized Events but cools political temperatures emanating from Uncertainty of timely presidential elections.
