HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – In a democracy such as practiced in our country political differences are an acceptable norm.
This was stated by the president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo during ceremonies commemorating the Somaliland Police Force 22nd Anniversary at a function held at police headquarters in Hargeisa.
Flanked by the commissioner of police Brigadier Abdilahi Fadal Iman and a large contingent of deputies as well as the minister of interior Mohamed Ali Waran’ade and newly appointed president minister Mahmud Abdi Hashi among others the president also warned that the security forces shall take action against any politically induced discontent
These sentiments were in apparent reference to ongoing presidential candidate’s nominee disputes within the ruling party of Kulmiye that has resulted in the resignation of several cabinet ministers from the administration of president Silanyo.
On the well being of the police force the head of state recommitted himself and his administration to ensuring that no stone is left unturned towards strengthening it.
The Somaliland police force was established from a collection of clan militias in 1993 two years following the end of the civil war that culminated in the withdrawal of Somaliland from its 1960 union turned fateful with South Somalia.
